Snorkeling is the practice of swimming on or through a body of water while equipped with a diving mask, a shaped tube called a snorkel, and usually swim fins. In cooler waters, a wetsuit may also be worn. Use of this equipment allows the snorkeler to observe underwater attractions for extended periods of time with relatively little effort.
Snorkeling is a popular recreational activity, particularly at tropical resort and scuba diving locations. The primary appeal is the opportunity to observe underwater life in a natural setting without the complicated equipment and training required for scuba diving, and without the exhaled bubbles of scuba-diving equipment.
Surfing is a recreational activity in which individuals paddle into a wave on a surfboard, jump to their feet, and are propelled across the water by the force of the wave. Surfing's appeal probably derives from an unusual confluence of elements: adrenaline, skill, and high paced maneuvering are set against a naturally unpredictable backdropan organic environment that is, by turns, graceful and serene, violent and formidable.
Sri Lanka Coast guard has already given the approval for a fully equipped life guard unit to be established in the coast of Madiha, where as one such unit has already been set up in Mirissa for the protection of visitors. Weligama has its natural protection with its geographical conditions but a unit of lifeguard unit is to be set up soon. Welikanda too has its natural protection and it also has a life guard unit hovering around for everyone's safety. Additionally; locals are well trained by the lifeguard academy to do any life saving job when necessary.
