Named after three of our favorite resident birds Shama, Iora, Mal Koha - share a common lounge and dining area along with a little pantry. The cottages, each with its own verandah, are designed to maximize the impact of the forest. As our attics seem highly popular, we added one at Weera as well. It leads off the lounge area and can be used for additional sleep space or for reading, writing, bird watching or playing games on a rainy day.

Welang Bungalow

An open format bungalow, this has 3 bedrooms, a dining area and a lounge area. With the capacity to comfortably accommodate up to 8 adults and 3 children; Welang is always given out as a single unit which makes it ideal for small family gatherings and groups of friends. With nature surrounding the bungalow, the venue consists of a small pantry with a refrigerator. The attic which is available for additional sleeping space is a favourite with the kids.

This is a cluster of 3 individual cottages named after 3 local birds; Shama, Lora and Mal Koha. The cottages share a common lounge area, a small pantry and a dining area. Other activities such as reading and playing indoor games can also be enjoyed if you are holidaying during the rainy season.

Ideal for the nature lover and adventurer, Back of Beyond in Pidurangala consists of 6 accommodation units that are eco friendly and comfortably set without harming its natural surroundings. Meals can be offered while there is a cook who can prepare meals when you provide them with the goods. Location of Back of Beyond - Pidurangala, Sigiriya

The first retreat in a chain of venues, Back of Beyond Pidurangala is spread across four acres of jungle land right at the base of the Pidurangala rock. This area borders Sigiriya while the closest main town is Dambulla which is approximately 20km away. The travel time from Colombo is about 4-5 hours while the distance is about 177km.

The property consists of 6 rooms altogether while they can accommodate up to 16 adults and children. All rooms consist of attached toilets and hot water. All bedrooms include fans to minimize energy wastage while mosquito nets are an added advantage.

The locals have named Back of Beyond - Pidurangala as the 'Kurulu Uyana' which translates to 'Bird Park' due to the excellent bird watching opportunities. There is a resident cook who prepares a wide variety of Sri Lankan and Western dishes with a distinctive Sri Lankan touch. If you are occupying Welang, you can bring your own groceries and ask the cook to prepare what you like, while picnic lunches can be packed for the convenience of travellers.

Back of Beyond, Pidurangala also consists of a little library where you can learn about the Sri Lankan history as well as the local wildlife and bird population. The venue is a paradise for bird watchers while the property borders an elephant path making elephant sightings a possibility during the dry seasons. The property also boasts of a house keeper and guide.

The venue is ideal for the wild life enthusiast with many National Parks situated less than an hour's drive away. Minneriya, Kaudulla and Hurulu Wewa are to name a few. There are herds of wild elephants who gather annually among open grasslands offering visitors a splendid sight. Safaris can be organized during the season. Other than wildlife, there are historically relevant sites as well as sites of religious importance. Some of the most famous attractions nearby include the Ritigala Monastery, the Dambulla Cave Temple, the ancient ruins of Polonnaruwa and the Sigiriya Rock Fortress.
