Asian Groundling (සුලබ තැඹිලිවන් බත්කූරා)
This small, orange-coloured dragonfly is one of the most common species found in the lowlands of Sri Lanka. Its distinct wing colour and pattern make it easily distinguishable from other Sri Lankan dragonflies.
Appearance: Males have vibrant orange wings, while females are more yellowish with less colourful wings. Their unique coloration helps in easy identification.
Habitat: This species thrives in various open water habitats such as tanks, paddy fields, wetlands, and lagoons. It is frequently seen in large numbers and can even breed in polluted canals and human-modified landscapes, including cities and industrial areas.
Distribution: Due to its adaptability, this dragonfly is widespread across Sri Lanka, except in close-canopy forests and upper mountains. It is also found across South and Southeast Asia.
